Venus in Fur
Director | Producer
Written by David Ives
Venus in Fur has been my favorite production to date. This was probably the first time I discovered the complexity of classical text. Granted, Venus in Fur is not a classic, but it flips back and forth between classical language and modern language, and for the short three weeks that I worked on it, I was completely engrossed. It referenced so many cultures and histories, and the plot was woven incredibly, even for a linear two-hander. It was a technical challenge to first interpret the language and then a creative challenge to devise a framework to portray both time periods in.
Even now, I feel like I haven't fully delved into Venus in Fur's meaning. This production was a one-night run with a three-week rehearsal period, from cold-read to open. I would love the chance to work on it again.
